Rampant Lion Collections - Heart of the Lion

Artistic Use of Heraldic

Charges as

Aquitane Bannockburn Saxony

In heraldic art, there are hundreds and hundreds of symbolic images that decorate ancient coats of arms. RAMPANT LION COLLECTIONS® has identified the most significant, the most commonly used, and the most symbolically powerful heraldic charges and meticulously hand carved these symbols into bas relief appliqués to adorn our appliqué signet ring series. The appliqués serve the following artistic and heraldic purposes:

  • To act as heraldic supporters for your engraved coat of arms.
EXAMPLE: A pair of rampant lion appliqués.
  • To artistically balance a coat of arms by replicating the heraldic charges in your coat of arms.
EXAMPLE: A fleur-de-lis and rampant lion on your shield are balanced with fleur-de-lis and rampant lion appliqués.
  • To symbolically augment existing charges.
EXAMPLE: Your shield has a castle that could be augmented by adding a knight's helmet and gauntlet appliqués.
  • To increase the heraldic power of your coat of arms.
EXAMPLE: Your shield has a rose symbol. Adding shields with swords as appliqués lends a more powerful martial feel to your signet.
  • To personalize your signet by adding appliqués reflecting your personal character or beliefs.
EXAMPLE: By adding crown appliqués, you can emphasize your personal dignity and accomplishment.
