Pirates, as opposed to buccaneers and privateers, attacked ships of all countries, held no commissions, and received no protection from any nation. In the New World, primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries, among the islands of the Caribbean and along the coasts of North and Central America, pirates threatened all shipping that dared to venture within the range of their ships and canons and were universally feared for their atrocities and robberies.

Carved sabers, cutlasses, pistols, daggers and cannons were all standard weaponry for the pirate. Crossed cutlasses (ideal for slashing and cutting), carved in relief from a cobbled stone background, grace our Crossed Cutlasses cufflinks.
