As the king of beasts, lions occupy a position of unquestioned nobility in the animal world. Symbolic of great strength, nobility and courage, the lion became associated with, and in turn symbolic of, the royal sovereignty of medieval kings and other lesser royalty. Stylized versions of the lion appeared on the arms, standards, seals and flags of the kings and their warrior knights. Lions so depicted on arms and other armorial bearings are known as "heraldic" lions. The heraldic lion is usually shown in a "rampant" position; in profile, rearing up with its forepaws in the air, its fiercest position.

Our Winged Heraldic Lions ring portrays a lion rampant with a draped border. In looking through the finger hole, one can see crossed swords as further ornamentation.
