The son of Greek and Roman gods and the strongest man in the ancient world, Hercules met the ultimate challenge known as the "twelve labours of Hercules". In performing the difficult of all the labours, acquiring the golden apples of the Hesperides, Hercules convinced Atlas, one of the Titans and father of the Hesperides, to bring him the apples. Atlas was condemned to bear upon his shoulders the weight of the heavens. In his absence and until his return, Hercules agreed to take the burden on his own shoulders. Hercules was the only man known in Greek mythology to have made the transformation from mortality to immortality.
On our Hercules ring, Hercules is depicted with the heavens upon his shoulders, substituting for Atlas, portraying the essence of super-human strength, power and determination. This classically designed piece features Hercules surrounded by Greek columns with Mount Olympus, the home of the gods, looming in the distance.
