Kings, lords and lesser nobility, and in some cases the men who served them, were all knights - medieval warriors who fought on horseback. To protect themselves from swords and lances, these knights wore body armor of chain mail which consisted of many small, linked iron rings. In the 14th century, knights began to rivet steel plates to their cloth tunics to better protect themselves. In the early 1400's, knights began to wear full suits of plate armor which weighed about 44-55 pounds. Their armor was flexible enough so that the wearer could run, lie down or mount a horse without any assistance.
On our Knight on Steed cufflinks, studs and tie tacks, a lone armored knight astride his steed with raised sword is dramatically depicted on a shield.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL TIE TACKS COME WITH A BASE METAL CLUTCH & CHAIN ASSEMBLY.
