Ursus Horribilis, more commonly known as the grizzly bear, assumed a role of great metaphysical importance to the natives of North America. Serving not only as a source of meat and fur, the grizzly bear is also man's natural cousin with his almost human-like habits. Powerfully huge and fearless, the warrior spirit of the grizzly bear was thought to protect those tribes, clans or families with a totemic relationship to the grizzly bear. In being chosen as an emblem of the group, the grizzly bear was often revered as a sacred ancestor.
Our Grizzly Bear ring features an erect Alaskan grizzly, fearless in countenance on one side, and a rambling grizzly with Denali in the background and an arcing salmon in a mountain stream in the foreground on the other side.
