Pirates, as opposed to buccaneers and privateers, attacked ships of all countries, held no commissions, and received no protection from any nation. In the New World, primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries, among the islands of the Caribbean and along the coasts of North and Central America, pirates threatened all shipping that dared to venture within the range of their ships and canons and were universally feared for their atrocities and robberies. The black pirate flag emblazoned with the skull and crossbones, symbols of death and danger, struck fear in the hearts of pirates' victims. Pirate captains often created their own customized versions of the pirate flag, generally known as the "Jolly Roger". "Calico"Jack Rackham, a famous English Caribbean pirate, adopted the skull and crossed cutlasses (heavy swords with slightly curved and sharpened blades that are ideal for slashing and cutting) as his personalized "Jolly Roger."
Our Jolly Roger ring details "Calico" Jack Rackham's death symbols amidst a cobbled stone texture highlighted with a carved rope design.
