Once the most widely distributed of all predator species in the Western hemisphere, the panther (also named puma, cougar and mountain lion)has assumed a position of great prominence in Native American mythology. Revered for its elusiveness, strength and cunning, the cougar was known as "Lord of the Forest" to the Cherokees, "Greatest of Wild Hunters" to the Creeks, and "Father of Game" to the Zunis. As a vanishing symbol of the "Wild West," panthers now inhabit only the mountainous coastal corridors from Canada to South America, but they will always live on in our Native American legends and mythologies.
Our Panther ring depicts a lithe hunter cautiously making his way.
