Historically, eagles were associated with God and the heavens. Ancient kings and royalty believed themselves to be gods or god-like, and so it came to be that the eagle, because of its association with God and the heavens, became the symbol of these royals. Stylized versions of the eagle appeared on the arms, standards, seals and flags of the sovereign rulers of the ancient world. Eagles so depicted on arms and other armorial bearings are known as "heraldic" eagles. The heraldic eagle is usually shown with his head in profile and the rest of the body shown symmetrically with the wings and talons in right angles to the body.
Our Knight & Heraldic Eagle ring depicts on one side a heraldic eagle in relief on a shield, and on the other side, a medieval castle protected by a lone armored knight on his steed in the foreground.
