As the most revered serpent in the ancient world, the hooded cobra has always presented a frightening visage. King cobras are known to reach over eighteen feet in length, the longest of all the venomous snakes. All snakes in the cobra family are able to spread their ribs to widen their necks into a magnificent hood when confronting danger. According to Egyptian mythology, the cobra was the wisest of animals. Egyptian goddesses of heaven and earth, as well as the Egyptian pharaohs, adorned themselves with cobras on their foreheads.
