In the Egyptian hieroglyphic system of writing, symbols prominently used in both life and the afterlife include the ankh, the sign of physical and eternal life which only pharaohs, queens and gods were allowed to carry, and the Eye of Horus, a protective talisman for both the living and the dead. It is believed that the wearer of an amulet decorated with these symbols gains the essence of their power and protective elements. The dynastic reigns of the pharaohs and their queens provided the continuity upon which the Egyptian culture was allowed to flourish. These rulers were deified as gods and goddesses in the afterlife. The hieroglyphic for pharaoh was an actual bearded, full-bodied silhouette. The hieroglyphic for the Egyptian queen was the hooded cobra, wisest of animals with an unblinking eye that sees all.

Our Pharaoh band depicts in bas relief an ankh, the Eye of Horus, and Pharaoh hieroglyphics.
